 We’ve created an easy mind map for kids that will give you the first step to start creating your own mind maps with your students . Remember that mastery becomes from practice, you should know how to do a mind map before ask your students to do it.

Besides being a creativity activator and a better thinking tool, mind maps also help your students to know basic structures when you are teaching a second or a foreign language.

For this activity your students should know the difference between living and non-living things just by inferring some information like:  Can a desk move?   Does a blackboard need food? What about shelter, does a pencil need a place to live? What about animals? What happens if you don’t feed your pet? etc.  Think about your students interests according to their age to ask for information.

On the center of the blackboard paste a flashcard of a bird and ask questions, elicit information from your students, and use their prior knowledge to guide them through the activity.

Elaborate a mind map with your student’s suggestions

 

A bird is a living thing.  A bird needs food, water, air, sun, shelter and love to live.

On the center the bird, draw a branch to draw or paste a flashcard about food, draw another branch from the center and draw water, then another branch and draw air, a branch for sun, a branch for shelter and a branch for love. If you want a powerful mind map let the children choose the things they associate with each word to create an image.

 As your students to choose an animal, person, plant (living things) to create their own mind map, you already gave them the model on the blackboard, now is their turn. At the end of the activity they can talk about their living thing using their mind maps.
